TORONTO, August 30, 2016 — Today, Ryerson University Athletics proudly announces a new partnership with NIKE, Inc. Spanning the university’s eleven varsity sports teams, the partnership will see NIKE, Inc. supply each team with uniforms, apparel and equipment.

Beginning this 2016/17 season, the partnership marks a new chapter in Ryerson’s emerging athletics program, which celebrated its first-ever Ontario University Association championship title last year in both men and women’s basketball.

This season also features a newly designed website and social media channels, with the goal of fostering exceptional student experiences and increasing community engagement.

“We are thrilled to be aligned with Nike and form this partnership to further support our pursuit of excellence,” said Ryerson University Director of Athletics Dr. Ivan Joseph. “Our athletics program has experienced tremendous growth and success in recent years, and we can’t wait to build on that success this year by welcoming Nike to the Ramily.”

A New Era

Ryerson Athletics has long played a key role at Ryerson, beginning in 1948 with men’s hockey. The program has grown in lockstep with the university and today is home to eleven varsity teams and eleven competitive clubs. Recent years have seen renewed energy and vibrancy across athletics, marked by a new strategic plan aimed at achieving new levels of excellence and engagement.

The results and impact of this plan are already evident. Varsity basketball, hockey, soccer and volleyball have all appeared in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) Top 10 rankings over the last four years; both the men and women’s basketball teams were OUA Champions in 2015-16, with the women’s team winning the CIS silver medal, and the men winning the bronze (for the second year in a row).

A New Look

The new uniforms were designed to honour the heritage of Ryerson Rams Athletics while offering a bold new look to complement the renewed energy of the program. Inspired by the recent Ryerson University rebrand, the uniforms maintain the signature blue and gold hues while standardizing the Rams’ popular “R” logo across all varsity teams—uniting the Ramily visually.

Beyond providing uniforms, NIKE, Inc. will collaborate with Ryerson Athletics on community events and initiatives that will celebrate education in health and wellness for the entire Ryerson community.

Ryerson Rams Athletics gear created by NIKE, Inc. is available at the Mattamy Athletic Centre, the Ryerson Athletic Centre, as well as on campus at pop-up locations throughout the school year.

Ryerson University is Canada’s leader in innovative, career-oriented education and a university clearly on the move. With a mission to serve societal need, and a long-standing commitment to engaging its community, Ryerson offers more than 100 undergraduate and graduate programs. Distinctly urban, culturally diverse and inclusive, the university is home to more than 41,500 students, including 2,400 master’s and PhD students, 3,200 faculty and staff, and nearly 170,000 alumni worldwide.
