Thon Maker (MVP) & Athlete Institute win inaugural OSBA Championship


On Point was ‘On Location’ game 2 of the first annual Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association (OSBA) Championship series that saw Athlete Institute battle Orangeville Prep in Orangeville, Ontario. Game 1 saw Athlete Institute win
95-76, behind Notre Dame commit Nikola Djogo’s 23 points and Thon Maker’s 19 points, 17 rebounds, 5 assists, and 6 blocks.

The second game was a back and forth affair with Orangeville Prep’s Jahvon Blair tying up the game late on a thrilling three point bucket to sent the game to overtime.

But in overtime it was all Athlete Institute as they pulled ahead and won it 82-71 to be the first champions of the new Canadian prep league.

Series and League MVP Thon Maker tallied 27 points, 13 rebounds, 7 blocks, and 3 steals. UMBC commit Cole Long poured in 17 points, while Nikola Djogo had 14 points. Thon’s brother Matur stuffed the stat sheet with 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 blocks.
Thon was also named a first team league All-Star and was cleared by the NBA to enter the 2016 NBA draft.
